Title: Letter to Grandson, Regarding a Professor's Rheumatism

Author(s): Campbell, James

GarscubeMay 5th 1785
My dear Archd..

We were happy to hear, by
your Letter from Barrowbridge that you had
an agreeable journey, we were Afraid that the
profeſsor's mheumatism would have been a
little troublesome to you. but hope you are
arrived safe by this time. We came here
yesterday, Mama is a good deal better
since you left us, & we hope she will be
getting daily better here. We were all
quite delighted with your Picture, I think
I never saw so striking & so good a Likeneſs.
I suppose you are still at Dean St. We
hope you will write & tell us about the
place that you are going to. We found all
here in good health. Capt. Wallace is not
come out yet, but he is Coming soon. & is
better. remember you promised not to
keep Papa, but be disinterested & make

him come down to us as soon as [poſsible]
as you may be sure we are living to
see him again. I hear very little news
except that Lady [Bell] Hamilton has
married Mr. Cunninghame Lord Glencairn's
Brother. neither of them has any
fortune "all for Love or the World well
lost" perhaps you have heard this
already. Her Laſs. was staying with
Miſs O. Murray when we left Town
I fancy all the Friends are against
it. The weather has been fine till this
day. it rains a little. Lord Dalhousie
was greatly better & goes off to [Bosston]
next week if poſsible. as I have nothing
more particular to say I may as well
conclude with best comp & from all
here to Papa & you. Believe me

Ever yours Sincerely
J Campbell
